Goto Shuzo (後藤酒造店)
Our brewery is located in Takahata, a town in the Higashi-Okitama district in the southeastern part of Yamagata Prefecture. Takahata is affectionately known as the "Village of Mahoroba"—a name derived from the ancient word mahora, which translates to "a beautiful, fertile, and pleasant land surrounded by hills and mountains."
Nestled within the mountain-ringed Okitama Basin, the area is known for experiencing some of the most intense cold and heavy snowfall in the prefecture. However, this deep snow, combined with the basin's distinct temperature fluctuations and abundant, crystal-clear snowmelt, creates the perfect natural environment for cultivating premium rice and high-quality local fruits, such as grapes and La France pears.
We are dedicated to sharing our proud sake, passionately brewed in the beautiful and bountiful "Village of Mahoroba," not only across Japan but with the rest of the world.
