About The Brewery
Yamada Shuzo (有限会社山田酒造)
Founded in 1945 in Tatsugo, Amami Oshima, Yamada Shuzo is a boutique distillery renowned for its artisanal Kokuto (Brown Sugar) Shochu. Their flagship brands, "Nagagumo" and "Ichibanbashi," are celebrated for their bold character. By adhering to traditional atmospheric distillation and using premium local brown sugar, they preserve the intense aroma and rich, oily texture of the raw ingredients. Aged in ceramic jars (kame), their spirits develop deep notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits. Yamada Shuzo remains dedicated to small-batch, handcrafted production, capturing the warm essence and vibrant nature of the Amami Islands.
